About us

The North West Doctoral Training Centre (NWDTC) was the largest Economic and Social Research Centre (ESRC) funded DTC in England, between 2011 – 2016. The NWDTC awarded over 450 postgraduate studentships to support research and training at master’s and doctoral level across the range of social sciences at the Universities of Lancaster, Liverpool and Manchester.

In 2016, the NWDTC was awarded a further six years of funding by the ESRC to continue its work as a consortium. The consortium expanded to include Keele University, and was renamed the North West Social Science Doctoral Training Partnership (NWSSDTP). Further information on the NWSSDTP can be found on the new DTP website: http://nwssdtp.ac.uk/

Students funded by the NWDTC continue to study at all three DTC institutions. Information for these students – on additional funding opportunities, importantdates and key contacts – can be found on the Current Students page.
