About us

The North West Doctoral Training Centre (NWDTC) was the largest Economic and Social Research Centre (ESRC) funded DTC in England, awarding around 70 new postgraduate studentships per year between 2011 – 2016, to support research and training at master’s and doctoral level. The NWDTC was one of 21 DTCs in the UK created by the ESRC, and comprised the Universities of Lancaster, Liverpool and Manchester.

In 2016, the NWDTC was awarded a further six years of funding by the ESRC to continue its work as a consortium. The consortium expanded to include Keele University, and was renamed the North West Social Science Doctoral Training Partnership (NWSSDTP).
